A brief intro to content management
Content Management Systems have become very popular in the world of web design. A CMS, amongst other things, allows users to quickly and easily update their website without the knowledge of any cryptic programming languages.
Most 'CMSes' are based on a 'back-end' website specifically designed to manipulate your 'front-end' content and look. This back-end site is accessable via a secure, password protected logon. Updates to the site are logged and can be offset to a future time. All site information is stored in a database and can be rolled back to (in the case of a static site) or accessed (in the case of a web-based application) at any time.
Websites have different needs in terms of updating content. Some sites only need updating once a month; others need to be updated daily, if not more.

Syndication is the new buzz in the information world. News portals are beginning to see the advantages of providing news headlines for their content in a format suitable for aggregation in a news aggregator. This simplifies a person's daily news reading by fetching all their preselected news in one go and storing the headlines (and the relevant links) in the aggregators database. The simplest of all hosting options, option 1 is for 'brochure-like' websites under 10 megabytes in size. This option is designed for sites such as this one.
Option 2
Option 2 is aimed at small websites requiring 5 or less mailboxes. Simple CMS sites, online-catalogues and the like are ideally suited to option 2.
Option 3
This option is directed at medium to large scale, session-oriented, multiple database websites (eg. online purchasing applications).

How do we do it?
Databias uses an open-source technology called LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) in order to acheive global addressing for it's clients. This is a tried and tested approach to global address books and has proven to be blisteringly fast. Accessible from most email clients (Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Entourage, Databias webmail etc.), LDAP addressing is fast becoming a rival to Microsoft's Exchange Server's addressing functionality and comes at a fraction of the cost.

Get smart with your email
Databias provides an email backup service allowing you to access all your mail from anywhere. You download your mail as normal to your personal machine and leave a copy of the message on the server. Never again lose email as there will always be a backup on our servers. Also, if you are working on a very slow or expensive connection (ie. satellite / BGAN), Databias gives you the option to download email headers only so you can remove or file unwanted emails before unneccesarily downloading them. Now thats working smart!

What is IMAP
IMAP is a way of accessing electronic mail that is stored on a central server.
Certainly, this statement is true, but there's more to it than that. More precisely, IMAP is a way to retrieve messages from one or more mailboxes and manipulate the messages into a folder heirarchy of your design on a central server without ever having to download a single message to your local hard disk. The messages remain on the server at all times and are only downloaded to your personal machine when you actually decide to view them.

Using the IMAP protocol (versus the usual POP3 protocol), Databias gives users the ability to store and organise all their email our servers. Collaboration is key
Daily office collaboration tools come in many forms, one of which being shared calendars. Most fully-featured mail clients these days possess calendaring functionality and some even offer the ability to share or publish your calendar so that colleagues can see your availability and request meetings during your free periods. Your calendar can be password protected so only authorised individuals can access it and you can choose to publish varying degrees of information about your calendar. This allows you to decide whether you want authorised individuals to see everything going on in your schedule or else just to let them see when you are busy or not.
Microsoft's email server (Microsoft Exchange) offers shared calendaring functionality, but at a cost which most small businesses just cannot afford.
